Yesterday, we heard from Congress how dire the financial crisis is, how not voting for the bailout would bring about another Great Depression. Some even said it would effectively be the end of the world as we know it. The bill failed yesterday. Today, we would expect to see Congress scrambling to come up with a solution or compromise, working through the night. We would expect to see the markets tanking at a record pace. Instead, the markets are stable and Congress is on a two-day vacation. That's right, it's Rosh Hashanah. Congress has worked on holidays before but decided they could wait until later in the week to work on the imminent crisis.
